Since 1980, PETA has worked to defend animal rights. In that time, the organization has achieved a long list of milestones, including the following:
1. To sell products in China, many companies test their inventory on animals. In 1989, PETA persuaded toy enterprises, including Mattel and Hasbro, and cosmetic distributors Mary Kay and Avon to stop testing on animals.
2. In 1998, the organization worked with Taiwan’s government to pass its first law against animal cruelty.
3. Polo Ralph Lauren no longer sells fur as a result of PETA. All furs distributed prior to and during 2006 by the clothing manufacturer were removed from stores and donated to Mongolian families in need.
4. In 2015, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus released a statement that it will end elephant performances by 2018. This announcement came after PETA broadcasted a video showing the circus’ violent baby-elephant training.
