The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California encompasses more than 150,000 acres of federal, state, and city parks across Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The park offers hundreds of miles of hiking trails, ranging in length from less than a mile to almost 12 miles.
Hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains supply visitors with views of the Pacific Ocean, sycamore-filled canyons, spring wildflowers, and other natural treasures. One popular hike to Sandstone Peak leads to the highest point in the mountain range. The 6.25-mile loop trail to the summit, 3,111 above sea level, includes 1,075 feet of elevation gain.
